We have received a number of queries regarding the SS2 age categories, so, a quick recap is necessary.
The official ICF world championship categories for SS2 are mixed doubles for open, U23 and junior, as it has been for the past few years.
However, all other SS2 categories will be recognised, and medals and prizes presented (SS2 men, SS2 women in all of the age categories, as well as mixed doubles in all of the age categories).
The only change is that the masters age categories will be determined by the sum of the ages of the two paddlers, and not the age group of the youngest paddler (as it has been in the past). The age categories for the SS2 masters will, therefore, be in 10 year increments, starting from 70 – 79, 80 – 89, etc. This was put in place to encourage paddlers from the same country, who were not in the same age category, to paddle together, instead of having to look for a partner from another country.
We have also allowed entries to the SS2 to be submitted the day before the race (no T shirt or food voucher) so that paddlers from different countries can team up.
For the official world championship categories (open, U23 and junior mixed doubles), last minute changes can only be made by those who have already been registered for SS1 on the SDP system.
I trust this has provided some clarity. If all else fails, find someone you want to paddle with, and let us know at registration and we will make a plan. Just don’t miss out on what will, undoubtedly, be the biggest SS2 world championships ever.
A last minute reminder that entries to the event close at midnight on Tuesday 7th October. If you know of someone who might be sitting on the fence, give them a nudge. It would be great to break the 500 mark for the SS1 event.
